In a recent trip to Italy, our sommelier sat before Lake Garda & sipped Cà dei Frati wine complemented by delicious Italian food. That moment in the mountains, he was struck by the history of this small family owned winery that has been around since the 1800’s. If you could “bottle” that experience, it would be: Cà dei Frati.
CÀ DEI FRATI | $14/glass, $42/bottle
Wine Style: Made from Turbiana, a native white grape with structure & aromatic lift. Fresh, floral, & citrus-driven with a mineral backbone & a subtle, creamy lees-aged texture.
Why It’s Great for Sharing Plates: Its zippy acidity & light bitterness cleanse the palate — perfect with fried snacks, crudo, grilled vegetables, or burrata. A wine that’s refreshing yet complex enough to weave through a diverse table.
Geography & History: From the Lugana DOC, near Lake Garda in Lombardy, northern Italy — a region known for its cool climate & mineral-rich glacial soils. The estate dates back to the 18th century, with modern winemaking beginning in 1939 by the Dal Cero family, pioneers of the Lugana DOC.
This wine comes to our Rosemont hotel from a small Borolo-region farm owned by the Montezemolo family dating back to the 1300s. Through a personal connection made with the family, our sommelier brings you this wine selection in addition to their combined decades of work & experience for us to share.
CORDERO DI MONTEZEMOLO | $18/glass, $54/bottle
Geography & History: From La Morra in the Langhe, Piedmont — an area with rolling hills, marl-clay soils, & cool alpine breezes. The Montezemolo family boasts one of the oldest noble estates in Barolo, bottling under their name since the 1800s.
Wine Style: 100% Nebbiolo, but a younger, more approachable version than Barolo. Shows vibrant red fruit, violet, & light spice, with fine tannins & juicy acidity.
Why It’s Great for Sharing Plates: Structure without heaviness — ideal for charcuterie, meatballs, roasted mushrooms, & grilled lamb skewers. Nebbiolo’s tannin frames savory flavors & gives lift to richer textures — the wine adapts & elevates without dominating.
